Welcoming Our New Leaders in Hospitality & Engagement
January 29, 2025We are thrilled to welcome back M. Roger Holland II to St. John’s Cathedral on Sunday, February 9, as he conducts the Cathedral Choir in the singing of traditional spirituals. A distinguished figure in Black Catholic worship, Holland is a Teaching Associate Professor in Music and Religion and Director of The Spirituals Project at the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver. A graduate of Union Theological Seminary in New York City where he received the Master of Divinity degree, Roger also served as Artist-in-Residence and director of the Union Gospel Choir for over 13 years.
His work has resonated deeply within our community, particularly when the Jacksonville Gospel Chorale performed his powerful composition, Voice of My People, at the Cathedral for Juneteenth 2024. Join us for this special occasion as we celebrate the rich heritage of spirituals with M. Roger Holland II.
