Throughout July and August, we’ll be looking at the ministries at St. John’s Cathedral each week. These ministry spotlights are intended to inform you of the various opportunities available and to encourage you to get involved. By Rally Day, Sunday, August 26, you’ll have a good idea of where you’d like to apply your talents and time. This week we’ll look at Daughters of the King, Lauriette Lofton, President, and The Brotherhood of St. Andrew, George Booth, President.
Daughters of the King (DOK) is a religious order for women in the Episcopal church that is dedicated to prayer, service, and evangelism. On the third Saturday of the month, members meet here at the Cathedral to pray together and plan service projects such as collecting toys for the St. Mary’s Christmas room.
All women are invited to join as we work together to build a community of faith and service in the church and the world. For more information contact, DOK President Lauriette Lofton at [email protected].
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew is the primary men’s ministry in the Episcopal church, focused on evangelism through the disciplines of prayer, study and service. Here at St. John’s, we have served for a number of years supporting a variety of parish activities. More recently we started the Faith Chest ministry through which we present a small chest to each baptismal candidate as an expression of our support for their walk with Christ. You may write notes of encouragement or prayers and place them in the chests by the font for those who will be baptized Sunday, August 26.
All men of the parish are invited to the Brotherhood, which meets on the first Monday at 6 p.m. and second Saturday at 8:30 a.m. of each month. For more information, please contact George Booth at [email protected].
