News from the Nominating Committee
Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Your Nomination Committee is entering the
next phase of our holy task of being guided
to the next bishop of our diocese.
We are humbled by the thoughtful and
diligent participation in listening sessions
and the search survey by so many in our
diocese as you have shared your thoughts about challenges and
opportunities, dreams and aspirations for our future.
More than 900 people answered the survey distributed both online and through our parishes, and some 400 people participated in 15 in-person and online sessions held throughout our diocese. Additionally, we conducted special sessions for the diocesan staff and our governing bodies, including the Standing Committee, Diocesan Council, and Foundation Board. We also had a clergy-only session and a powerfully essential reflections session just with Bishop Howard as he shared thoughts about his time as our bishop and what he saw as opportunities to come.
Using this information, we are completing a profile of our diocese that highlights who we are as a body of Christian believers and how we nurture each other and those in need of care in our regions. The profile describes our part of Florida to give potential candidates a glimpse of our way of life for those who are unfamiliar. But most importantly, the profile points to the positive activities in our diocese, opportunities to address, and the attributes you have said we desire in our next bishop. The profile is a vital tool for candidates discerning their call to apply. It will be posted in mid-October on www.FloridaBishopSearch.org, and we invite you to please visit and read the profile for yourself.
At the profile’s posting in mid-October, nominations and applications for bishop coadjutor will be open, and we will receive applications for one month, after which our prayerful selection of candidates for the final slate of candidates begins.
We are grateful for your continued prayers and support. Children of the Living God need each other.
Peace and Blessings,
Jeff Hoffman
Chair of the Nominating Committee
