“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them. That one is like a man building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when a flood arose, the river burst against that house but could not shake it, because it had been well built.” - Luke 6:47-48
Roughly 175 years ago, a group of faithful Christians, heeding Christ’s call, laid the foundation for the first official sanctuary of St. John’s Parish. They understood the need to offer a place for people to worship and be transformed by God. Almost two centuries later, although the initial building is no longer and a subsequent worship space was destroyed, St. John’s Cathedral still stands in the center of Jacksonville as a faith foundation of God’s grace. Its ministries and members are shining examples of Jesus’ love for the world. In effect, we are the legacy, the ongoing ministry and witness of Jesus, of those first few Christians here at St. John’s. We invite you, the current members and friends of St. John’s Cathedral, to create your legacy, continuing God’s mission through St. John’s for generations to come, by joining the St. John’s Legacy Society.
The Legacy Society of St. John’s is open to all faithful people who desire to solidify the future of Christ’s redeeming work here at St. John’s by giving a legacy gift through provisions in their estate. Planned gifts of any amount qualify. All it takes to become a member of the Legacy Society of St. John’s is to inform Pam Searcy, Director of Stewardship and Development, that you have made provision for St. John's Cathedral in your will or estate planning. These gifts enable the cathedral to develop and enhance ministries and properties beyond what is possible through annual operating funds and assure that the life and ministry of the Cathedral will continue to thrive for future generations.
